October 20, 2010 - We've Upgraded Our Recycling Game

Beginning October first, the city of St. Petersburg has started a city wide curb-side recycling. We have been working closely with our building's owners to start a more robust recycling initiative that involves the entire building. Today, we are pleased to announce that we have cut through the red tape and now have the entire office on board. The official word is in and the first piece of paper has made it to the recycling bin.

See you in a greener future,

August 29, 2010 - Yep, We're Fully Insured!

We have received numerous questions and feedback about on-the-job and liability protection. While we take every step to ensure your assets are safe, we also want to make it public that we have coverage in place to handle any problems that arise.

Our professional liability coverage not only keeps you safe, but us safe as well.

July 10, 2010 - Bucket of Time Support

Experience has shown us that most people and companies do not like signing into a contract agreement. Granted, our contracts are month to month and are only there to illustrate what is covered in that month, people still feel uncomfortable with the stigma of it all. As well, companies are doing all they can to cut back costs - and forming a contractual agreement isn't always the best solution.

We have come up with a work around for clients that don't need an endless support agreement and also clients that have many small "quick to handle" issues that don't require a full hours' charge. Currently, if you have an issue that takes HDCS under thirty minutes to resolve, you will be billed for the first initial hour regardless of amount of time spent. With our newest support option you can buy minutes of time up front and use them as you wish.

Bucket of Time, as we like to call it, is a revolutionized way of handling support cases in the I.T. Technology Solution industry. Coupled with our premiere support staff and our Help Desk Ticket Management system, we keep a detailed record of your support requests while logging your purchased time.

June 3, 2010 - Choosing the right computer for the job?

Choosing the right computer for the job is imperative for business success. Many business owners think that just because the computer is new and that they’ve heard the name brand before that it’s the best buy for their needs. When in reality, it is usually the worst decision you can make.
When looking for the right computer you want to focus on the following main points with each underlying element taken into consideration:

How will the computer be used?
  • Web-based applications
  • Locally served client applications
  • High-process multitasking
  • Memory driven bulky applications, or
  • Simply for travel and offsite access

Does the computer come with a warranty?
  • Hardware and on-site service
  • Multi-year agreements
  • Power-failure coverage, and
  • Water damage protection

How much storage space is needed?
  • Locally hosted data for applications
  • Response time of the Hard Drive
  • Backup solutions in place
  • Not to be confused with RAM (memory)

What I/O peripherals are required?
  • Generous amount of USB ports
  • Dual-screen ability
  • Memory card readers
  • HD Sound ready
  • Firewire external drive access
  • CD/DVD Burning capabilities

Operating system meets network requirements?
  • Allows for domain connectivity
  • Has permission user-based roles
  • Sharing and security features
  • Is a legally legit copy of software
  • Needs virtualization capabilities.

These five items are the basics for determining what you need and are the essential questions you need to ask yourself and your IT consultant. While there are many other factors, such as quality of hardware, amount of memory, proper air-flow for cooling, battery backup, and hardware accelerated graphics cards. Making the best choice is always difficult, but with the help of Help Desk Computer Services – we can make it an easy one.

May 7, 2010 - Dexis & Dentrix

Recently one of our customers was experiencing server issues that were caused to a failing hard disk drive, replacing the hard drive would be costly and not that much more expensive to just replace the server while we were at it. This customer is a Dentist in Clearwater that runs a very popular patient tracking system called Dentrix and an X-Ray imaging system called Dexis. We have been working with and around Dentrix and Dexis for over a year now at a few dental clients of ours, but never have we had to setup a fully functioning server from the ground up.

We worked closely with support for the beginning stages of development to determine what type of equipment and operating systems are required, what service packs and updates will be needed, and all documentation they could give us. After careful planning, we always work with offices during their downtime, so we scheduled on a free day and they were up and running by next business day. This experience has put a lot under our belt and we feel very confident in the who/what/where/when/why of using, installing, troulbshooting, and supporting of Dentrix and Dexis systems for your office.

April 30, 2010 - Site is Live!

Our new website is currently up and running with full functionality of a robust blog and all content. We have spent nearly four months from initial concept to what you see today. Our goal is to keep you, my current and potential customers, informed about what is happening and where you stand in our future together. We will work hard to be your one-stop-shop for IT consulting.

April 20, 2010 - Finished coding of site

All site development, functionality, and most content is complete - currently we're finishing up on the rest of the content with a custom Blog that will be hosted locally. Most company owners don't realize that having a blog hosted offsite versus within their webpage are substantially different ball games. One will help with google, the other not so much. Contact us for more information on how a blog could help you!

March 30, 2010 - Creating new content

Content is king when it comes to being first on the serach engines, and with our robust new site and content we feel very confident on our hard work. This site is nearly complete and with the amount of work put into making us search friendly is an investment worth making. Currently we're focusing on content, the final step will be keyword revision and deployment.

March 10, 2010 - Site about half way done

Our new site, the one you're on now (hopefully sooner than later), is going to be amazing! If you're reading this you already know it's amazing... We're working on coding functionality between social networking mediums as well as a locally hosted blog that will help us fight with the google bot. Our goal is to provide you the best support, but how can we provide you anything if you can't find us - we're hoping, my favorite reader, that you're here because we want you to be.

Febuary 25, 2010 - Created new 3D logo

We have been working with a local 3D firm that specializes in motion graphics and 3D modeling/animation. I'm mentioning this company because they have an exceptional portfolio and took my vision and put it to reality. The 3D logo you see on the Home Page is the work of Tampa Bay's new CG Factory.net. Take a look at their site and their demo reel, don't forget to mention who sent you there! Help Desk Computer Services.

Febuary 22, 2010 - New site design started
